Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)
About the Scheme
ICDS is a comprehensive welfare scheme launched by the Central Government in 1975. The main objective of the scheme is to ensure health, nutrition, and overall development of children aged 0-6 years, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and adolescent girls. In Kerala, this scheme is implemented through Anganwadis under the Women and Child Development Department.
Beneficiaries:
- Children under 6 years of age
- Pregnant women
- Nursing mothers
- Adolescent girls
Main Objectives:
- Ensure physical, mental, social, and intellectual development of children aged 0–6 years.
- Reduce malnutrition and diseases among children.
- Improve the health status of pregnant and nursing mothers.
- Prepare children for primary education.
