History
Kidangoor is a naturally beautiful small village. This area, which falls in Meenachil Taluk of Kottayam district, stretches along both banks of the Meenachilar River. The village has a history and cultural heritage spanning centuries. In the known historical period, Kottayam and the surrounding areas were part of Vempanadu. Vempanadu was a special division of the Chera kingdom. When the Chera kingdom collapsed in the 11th century, Vempanadu also broke into smaller parts. The kingdom was divided into many regions such as Vadakkumkur, Kizhmalanadu, Thekkumkur, Munjanad, and so on. The capital of Thekkumkur kingdom was initially at Venni Malai and later at Thali. Kidangoor was part of this Thekkumkur kingdom. This historically famous area, which also bordered the Vadakkumkur kingdom, is said to have once had Kidangoor Fort. The people of Kidangoor are called Kidangoor. Elders say that the remnants of a mud fort existed at the place now known as Kottappuram. The place name 'Kottavazhi' reinforces this assumption.
